Mob kills five family members in Kisii, burns down homes

Five members of a single family in Metembe village, located in Masimba Ward, Kisii County, lost their lives after being lynched by an angry mob on Thursday night.

According to Citizen Digital, the angry villagers allegedly suspected the family of having a hand in the killing of a middle-aged man whose body was discovered about a month ago.

Among those killed were the parents of the family. However, two other relatives managed to flee the scene, escaping the attack.

Besides the brutal killings, the angry mob also set ablaze and destroyed six houses linked to the suspected family.

The remains of the five victims were moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

Authorities have since begun investigations into the incident.

South Masaba Deputy County Commissioner Jane Manene confirmed the tragic event, noting that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have officially launched a probe into the matter.
